Make a drip sandcastle

Drip sandcastle

It was only very recently that I learned about drip sandcastles and so, on our first trip to the beach this year, me and my two children decided that we were going to give making one a go! We had loads of fun making them and these photos show our first attempts. The process of building them is really satisfying so we will definitely be making them again!

What you will need:

  • Sand!

  • Water

  • A bucket

The first thing you need to do is get your sand really wet so it’s like a slurry. If you’re on a beach and near the sea, you can just dig down until the water pools in the hole and you’ll have wet sand. Or you can grab a bucket and fill it to about 3/4 full with water and then fill to the top with sand.

Next is the fun part! Simply grab a fistful of wet sand and let the sloppy mixture ooze through your fingers onto the ground. Keep dribbling more wet sand on top of the last dribbles to create a sort of stalagmite as the drips of sand stack on top of each other. The great thing about these sandcastles is that, if any of the towers fall down, you can simply drip more sand on top!
